Shear force centre#
- Shear force centre#
The shear force centre SC is that point in the cross-section through which the line of action of the shear force has to pass so that there will to be no torsion.
This is treated in chapter 5.5 of the book Engineering Mechanics Volume 2 (Hartsuijker and Welleman, 2007). A demonstration of deformation due to loading into and next to the shear force center can be found here under ‘Model 6’.
Instructions from lecture#
This topic is presented in Dutch in a lecture available from 0:11:40 - 0:31:20 here. This doesn’t include determining the location of the shear force centre, which is treated only in the book.
Exercises#
Exercises 5.49-5.54, in chapter 5.8 of the book Engineering Mechanics Volume 2 (Hartsuijker and Welleman, 2007). Answers are available on this website.
